Despite the raging coronavirus pandemic, the Ukrainian Youth Association in Canada continues to prepare for this year’s “Теплом зігріємо серця 2021” campaign.

“We call on the National Councils, branches, members, their parents and people of good will to join this charitable initiative to bring the holidays joy to those Ukrainian children who have experienced the pain caused by the fighting in eastern Ukraine,” the Association said on their website.

The fundraiser aims to purchase office and school supplies, warm clothes, shoes, books and toys for children of Ukrainian soldiers and participants in the east of Ukraine, as well the children of the forced migrants from Donbas. The gifts will be collected and distributed during the Christmas holidays, from December 25, 2021 to February 15, 2022.

In addition to gifts and money raised, the yunatstvo of the Ukrainian Youth Association will write a personal letter for moral support to a child in need in Ukraine.

“We pay attention, in particular, to the fact that the campaign “Теплом зігріємо серця” should include, first of all, an educational moment of love for one’s neighbor, so that every member of CYM felt that there are many of their peers in Ukraine who are not as happy as them, and that they can give joy with their action and warmth during the Christmas holidays,” the Association stated.

Over the last seven years of the campaign, the Association has collected more than 13,930 gift packages, for a total of more than USD 380,000.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to all those who participated in this charity event last year, including all CYM branches in Canada: Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Hamilton, St. Catharines,” the Association stated. “Also, to the numerous individual donors who raised $13,600 (US $10,000) for more than 420 children!”

This year’s campaign will have some features, the essence of which is that its final stage (gift giving) will take place not on St. Nicholas Day (December 19), but during the Christmas holidays – from December 25, 2020 to February 15, 2022. Such changes were adopted by the CYM World Board at the suggestion of the CYM National Board in Ukraine.

“Each of us can lend a helping hand to the children of the Ukrainian military, IDPs, as well as to those who always live near the demarcation line in Donbas. You can make your donations by the end of November!” the Association said.

The Association asks to collect gifts or funds to purchase such gifts for the children here.
