Colwood Walk of Hope to boost funds for ovarian cancer research
Every five hours, Canada loses a life to ovarian cancer. This stark reality underscores the critical importance of the upcoming 2024 Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8, at Royal Roads University in Victoria.
“One out of every two people diagnosed with this disease will not live another five years and we will not rest until women are able to live their lives freely, fully and uninhibited by ovarian cancer,” says Tania Vrionis, CEO of Ovarian Cancer Canada. Vrionis will be attending this year’s Victoria Walk of Hope, speaking directly to the community about their impact on all Canadians living with and at risk of ovarian cancer.
The annual event, held during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, serves as a crucial platform for raising funds to support ovarian cancer research, provide educational resources, and drive advocacy efforts across Canada. Last year, the Victoria event alone raised over $59,000, making it one of the most successful Walk of Hope fundraisers nationwide, ranking ninth among all events.
